To make sure you don't forget anything in your suitcase, here is a checklist for a successful mountain holiday!
Essential clothing (casual and sporty) to bring to the mountains:
- Waistcoat, jumper, sweatshirt, fleece jacket, trousers (in case of bad weather, cool temperatures in the evening).
- Small waterproof or windproof jacket.
- A swimming costume (in Flaine, there is an Aquatic Centre, a spa, and a pentaglisse).
Accessories to go:
- Sunglasses.
- Sunscreen (the UV index increases by 10% every 1,000 metres).
- A beach towel.
- A flask or water bottle.
- Packets of tissues.
- A pair of walking shoes.
- Hiking poles (not compulsory but recommended, see our article on Practical advice for successful hikes).
- Cap or hat.
- Backpack.
- A headlamp.
- A snack (gels, bars, dried fruit, etc.).
- A map or a compass (to avoid bad adventures...).
- First aid kit: survival blanket, bandages, blister bandages, sterile compresses, gauze, roll of plaster, some safety pins, disinfectant, scissors, splinter forceps, antivenom kit.
