Beginners or experienced walkers, hiking is fun in our Haute-Savoie resort, on marked trails around the Grand Massif in the Northern Alps. Majestic and varied landscapes, diversified itineraries, from family outings to long hikes, unexpected encounters...

On the edge of the nature reserves of Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval and Passy, Flaine offers treasures of fauna and flora: ibexes, marmots, jackdaws, bellflowers, wild rhododendrons, genepi... Discover 150 km of marked trails at the start from the resort, from the top of the Grandes Platières cable car or from Lac de Vernant. Something to satisfy all walking enthusiasts, from family walks to sporty hikes. Whether you are a stroller or trail runner, Flaine is the ideal base camp to start walks of all levels.


Little tip: in summer, free shuttles run between Les Carroz and Flaine. At each bus stop, one or more ideas for hiking. More information.

Mont-Blanc and its breathtaking 360° view

Departing from Flaine, the Grandes Platières cable car takes you to the top of the Grandes Platières at 2,500 m or for the bravest on foot with the GR 96. The pasture and its history

This hike invites you to follow an alpine path on the slopes of Aujon while discovering the life of animals, cows and sheep, and its history with the explanatory booklet. It is very easy, with the marks symbolized "cow", to enjoy this beautiful hike of 2h30 to 3h00. Free booklet (in French) for download (PDF) with its map.


The Désert de Platé, a geological curiosity

Facing Mont Blanc, this 1,980-hectare limestone plateau is mostly made up of lapiaz, carved out by glaciers and meltwater. Recognized as one of the largest lapiaz in Europe, the Plateau de Platé is accessible only on foot, which earned it its name "desert".

Classified since 1998 for its exceptional landscape interest, the desert of Platé attracts thanks to its extraordinary appearance. A vast limestone plateau shaped by glaciers and sculpted by meltwater, hikers who venture there have the impression of walking on a petrified glacier or even on the moon!

Surrounded by imposing walls, the Desert of Platé is a secret garden that will delight all nature lovers with its rich flora, its very present fauna and its spectacular geology. You will find fossil evidence of a mountain that formed a sea floor 40 million years ago!  More information.


The Grandes Platières cable car


Access to the Desert of Platé & the Mont-Blanc view from Flaine Forum thanks to the Grandes Platières cable car (12 min): Open from June 29th to September 1st, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - 7 days a week.
2024 prices: Adult (15 to 74 years old): €19.50 - Child (5 to 14 years old): €16.

In case of unfavorable weather conditions, the cable car will be closed all day.

Free admission for under 5 and 75+ on presentation of proof of age.

Little tip: at this altitude, it is necessary to bring a warm jacket. Hiking shoes or shoes with good grip are necessary to avoid any fall and accident.
