How do you fancy catching a glimpse of Mont-Blanc right in front of you, observing local wildlife, plantlife and geology of French Alps, or breaking a new personal best? You can do it all! Flaine is the ideal starting point, offering everything you need to get a new perspective on the mountains, whether you’re in the mood for reflection or sports. Make these discoveries even easier by taking advantage of the facilities available from the resort: walking trails, gondola lift, guided visits, entertainment…

On foot or on mountain bike

Discover mountain hiking and biking this summer in Flaine! Beginners or experienced walkers, hiking is fun in our Haute-Savoie resort. En Discover the joys of mountain biking on 200 kilometres of signposted circuits around the Grand Massif. Majestic and diverse landscapes, diverse routes, the family outing to long hikes, unexpected encounters... Flaine, the summer mountain resort is a walking art form.

On the edge of the Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval and Passy nature reserves, Flaine hides a treasure trove of flora and fauna: ibex, marmots, jackdaws, bluebells, wild rhododendrons, génépi... Explore 150 kilometres of signposted paths starting from the resort, the top of the Grandes Platières cable car, or Lake Vernant. Hiking enthusiasts couldn’t be better catered to, from family walks (Flaine Lake, 1 hour), to more demanding hikes (Tête du Colonney, 6 hours). Discover at your own pace: Platé Desert, a limestone plateau the highest summit in Europe, Alpine wildlife and plantlife, stunning views over the surrounding mountains… whether you’re a rambler or a trail runner, Flaine is the perfect base camp for setting off on walks and hikes for all abilities.

Le Désert de Platé

You can access the Désert de Platé by the GR 96 or by Grandes Platières cable car from Flaine. From the plateau, the surrounding peaks culminate with Grandes Platières at 2480 m (8 136 ft) This hike also allows to discover stunning views of the Mont Blanc and the Aravis mountain ranges. And marmots, ibex and other iconic animals are often at the rendez-vous.

Discover breath-taking landscapes just 12 minutes away thanks to the Grandes Platières cable car.

From 4th July to 28th August, 2020, from 9.00am to 5.00pm (opening 7/7). In the event of bad weather, the cable car will be closed for the day.

Rates 2019 : Adult: 15€ - Child (5-15 yrs old): 11.30€ (awaiting rates for 2020)

Top tip:: At this altitude, it’s wise to bring a warm jacket with you. Make sure your wear walking boots or shoes to avoid any falls or accidents.

Accompanied hikes

Enjoy a guided themed outing (fauna, flora, high altitude hiking, Nordic walking...) accompanied by professionals or go for a mountain bike ride. Guides offer a complete programme of mountain bike rides for all ability levels.

Electric mountain bike arrives in Flaine to discover the beauty of mountains without tire yourself out.

See a different side to hiking!

To discover the wildlife in our mountains in summer, Flaine’s ski area has introduced a wildlife observation service at the top of Les Grandes Platières. A coordinator will explain animal adaptation strategies and how our behaviour can help to protect them. Free of charge, with a sightseeing telescope!
